Installing and storing insulating glass units

we would like to remind you of the most important rules for the installation of our windows (screw or clip version) as well as the glazed units.  Only the combination of the highest quality products – that Plast System offers – with the necessary knowledge on the maintenance, creates the possibility of a perfect final product i.e. a sectional garage door.

Installing and storing insulating glass units

When installing our glazed units, it is worth remembering the properties of the materials they are made of. Acrylic has a much higher coefficient of linear expansion than glass or aluminium, therefore, glazed units should not be installed “rigidly” – they must be provided with adequate space for free movement (especially along the length).

What to remember:

  • To store only in a vertical position and avoid exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • The installation of insulating glass should take place within 4 weeks of the product being delivered to the customer’s warehouse.
  • To remove the protective film after installing the glazed unit in the sectional door.
  • To avoid contact with aggressive chemical substances.

Installation of screwed and clip windows

When installing windows in the door panel, it is very important to precisely match the cut-out in the panel to the specific window model.

Table of recommended installation parameters:

Window Type Cut-out dimensions [mm] Pressure force [Nm]
i336 305 x 610 1,5
i203 180 x 588 1,7
i345 320 x 640 1,5
i370 345 x 656 1,5
i430 405 x 745 1,5
r324 298 x 468 0,9
r344 320 x 510 1,3

The most important rules:

  • Windows should be properly matched to the thickness of the panel.
  • There should be NO free space between the frame and the panel – if necessary, additional sealing can be used.
  • Before installation, the protective film must be removed from the glazing.
  • Clip windows should be installed manually or with a rubber hammer.
  • Screw windows should be installed using a torque wrench.

Cleaning insulating glass

Plastic materials are characterized by low scratch resistance and this should be remembered when cleaning. Before starting work, dust or dirt should be removed with compressed air or a running stream of water.

What to avoid?

  • Glass cleaning specimen and aggressive chemicals.
  • Tools with sharp edges (brushes, spatulas, squeegees).
  • High temperatures during cleaning.

Cleaning stainless steel frames

  • A soft, non-abrasive fabric cloth to be used.
  • Use cleanser that is specially designated for stainless steel – avoid those containing chlorides, hydrochloric acid and silver cleaners.
  • Do not allow cleaning detergents to come into contact with a surface of the glazed unit

All the guidelines we provide are based on our best knowledge and experience, but this should not exempt manufacturers from the obligation to conduct their own tests.
